Hi All,
we are going over in a couple of days and would like to know if it is better to buy sim cards for our mobiles in Bulgaria or to top up before we go. If it is better, where can we get them in st Vlas or Sunny Beach.
Cheers

hi, i got 2 sim cards last year with mtel, they next to nothing, 10 lev i think, and came with some credit on.
calls and texts are cheap.
depends who youll be calling - if local numbers then definately worth it, if calling abroad, probably still cheaper than youre own sim but you may wanna check

I'm thinking of getting one of these myself, last year on my own phone, my bill was through the roof, when I got home, buying a sim card there, must definetly work out cheaper......
Any idea's where you get them from?

You can get pay as you go sim cards from the mobile phone shop that is on the road connected to the royal shopping mall. I purchase a Globul sim card which cost 8 lev, but it gave you 100 free minutes to other bulgarian numbers. Ideal if you buy two so you can keep in touch with others you are on holiday with. The top ups can be purchased in many of the supermarkets. All I would say is that it is still expensive to call the UK, cheaper to use a phone booth.

did you know its cheaper to send pic txt than standard txt when abroad? its £0.38 for txt messange and £0.17 for pic message. I was told by t-mobile that the way pic messaging is setup it cannot locate were you are, hence, the stardard UK rate.

Is that really true purkyuk? Does that apply to other UK networks too? I am with vodafone.

When you arrive in BG you'll normally have a text message from your network provider saying 'welcome to...' with the call charges and text charges. With T-mobile it says £0.17 per pic message. just checked my bill online, and sadly to say they were charged at £0.34 per pic message, must be a hidden charge for WAP, anyway its still cheaper than a text message which is £0.40
Hope this helps
