opening a bulgarian bank account

We have bought a one bedroom flat in block G3 and we are coming over for a week on Friday and then a fortnight later on. We wondered about bringing sterling with us and opening a bulgarian bank account to pay bills, last payment etc. Has anyone considered this or done it already? If so - is it wise? What do we need to bring (documentation etc)? Which bank / is there anyone who will advise us at NFC?

Hi lorraine and Martin,

We opened a bank account at Alpha bank in Sunny beach, 15 minutes walk from NFC, all you need are your passports to open an account. We thought it would be useful for holiday cash, bills, etc. There were a few others doing the same as ourselves.
Should be useful if your going to holiday there.

Kind regards

You can also use the payment online facility with FN as well, as this will come out of your uk bank.
If you are going to make deposits when you are there, you will be ok. But if you are transfering money from the uk, I think you may find that you will pay additional money transfer charges on top, and the exchange rates are not that good.

We did this 3 years ago, and ot worked out very costly. We still have our bulgarian bank account, and only deposut when we are there.
