Register with Police within 24 hours?

Hi all

We are flying with Balkan Air on Saturday out to Bourgas to stay in our Studio for the first time - it mentions in their holiday guide to register with the police within 24hours of arrival if we do not have pre-booked accommodation and that failure to do so will result in a penalty fee when leaving the country. Has anyone come across this before? Or does having your own apartment count as pre-booked accommodation?

This used to be the case before they joined the EU,

You don't need to do it anymore

Chaz, LFB,

I think its the same as visiting the U.S. they want to know who and where you are to avoid you just disappearing into the community and living illegally / tax free etc. As you have a fixed address you are staying in it means you are traceable and therfore it counts the same as pre-booking paid accommodation. Hope this helps.

Now you have to buy me lots of beers on saturday.

You no longer need to register at the police station, if you wish to stay for a length of time then you can apply for a long stay permit,

Since Bulgaria's ascension into the EU, visitors are not required to register with the police anymore, which makes life so much easier!!!
