sofia to bourgas

Just wondering if anyone has travelled from sofia to bourgas/sunnybeach and how viable it is? thanks Erica

It is do-able but it's a long haul - takes approx 7-8 hours to drive. However, on the plus side, you get to see lots of fantastic BG countryside. Have you thought of flying - Air Bulgaria fly into Bourgas every day.

Yes I did it last week.

I got the overnight train it took around 7-8 hours , think you can do it during the day in 6-7 hrs, costs less than a tenner for the 400km trip, a few quid if you want a sleeper for night train. Its not very luxurious at all, but effective.

I then hired a car at bourgas train station.

I drove back from Sunnybeach to Sofia in hire car, that took around 5 hrs

Hi, the journey is not to bad it depends on what time your flight arrives, the bus is great and run up until about 01.00 and then start again about 04.00 the bus will take you about 51/2hrs and stops on the way for 30 minute. They run every hour from the main bus terminal. If you get a taxi from the airport should cost you no more than 15lv in the hight of day and traffic. When you get to the bus station if you turn right there is an information desk were you can book they will also tell you which number stop the bus is going from and what company is covering the service, the price is 24lv each way. If you coming in on the BA flight from Heathrow that gives you time to get the 15.00 bus, and the Wizz flight gets you in with just enough time to get the last bus. The bus terminal is open all night and has quite good cafes and bars and is not to bad to wait in. You could also stay at the Jasmin hotel which is very nice and is 90lv for a double room including breakfast and has amazing views looking over Sofia, they will also take you free of charge down to the bus terminal in the morning for the bus. We have lived in Bulgaria now for 12 years and I always use the bus when going to Sofia. If you want any more info please just let me know

Hi, we flew into Sofia on the 16th March with Easy Jet, stayed the night at the Maxim hotel (booked via www.booking.com) The cost per double is 60 euros per night. We then caught the 09:45 bus on the 17th to Bourgas arriving at 15:45. It was a good journey through villages, as well as the snow topped mountain scenery.

We returned leaving from Sunny Beach bus station at 10:00 (Easter Sunday) arriving at 17:00. We had a half hour stop each way.

We spent two days in Sofia on our return journey and still haven't done it all. It's a lovely city with plenty to do, but you need a street map!

Booking our return hotel room at the same hotel cost us the same.

If you are thinking of using the bus in the summer it is advisable to book your seat from Sunny Beach to Sofia as early as possible as they do tend to get very busy.
