Hi, yes we have just paid our third payment, and sadly it cost us £2600 more due to very poor exchange.only hope it picks up for last payment next year to try and recoup some cash back. I dont know any way round it but it feels like we've just thrown the money away not a nice feeling sick ! but what can we do?

HI JANET,
I AM NOT THAT SCARED OF THE RENTAL PROBLEM ,IF YOU GET FN TO DO IT FOR YOU IT WILL BE FINE THEY HAVE THE PLACE CLEANED FOR ALL YOUR LETS.
IF YOU DO IT ON YOUR OWN YOU CAN HAVE THEM CLEAN THE APARTMENT AND PAY THEM AND THAT WAY YOU HAVE THE FULL RENTAL MONEY FOR YOUR SELF. MY FRIEND HAS A PLACE IN TENERIFE AND SHE ADDS THE CLEANING FEE INTO HER RENTAL CHARGE. I WAS IN TWO MINDS WHETHER TO RENT BUT I THINK THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING WITH THE EURO IT IS THE WAY TO GO. THE GOOD THING ABOUT KNOWING SOME ONE IN THE SAME COMPLEX IF YOU HAVE A LARGE PARTY OF PEOPLE THE TWO APARTMENTS CAN BE USED, FOR EXAMPLE IF I NEEDED EXTRA RENTAL SPACE I COULD PUT YOUR NAME FORWARD IF YOU WANTED TO RENT. I THINK AT THE END OF THE DAY THINGS MUST PICK UP AND IT IS A LONG TERM INVESTMENT SO WE HAVE TO RIDE THE STORM WHEN IT COMES TO THE EURO. NICE TALKING LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING YOU IN SUNNY CLIMES

Hi

I have paid my 3rd installment & am just wandering how soon do we have to sign at the notary & start to pay the taxes?
We really struggled to get all the cash together in order to pay the 3rd installment. I have no intention to start using the apartment (purely because I need to save up in order to furnish).
Does anybody know anything about timescales and what would happen regarding the taxes?

Thanks!

ive got a apartment in NFC to furnish i used a company called varna-furniture.com its very cheap compared to fortnoks the sales manager is called dinko if you can get a few people of this forum he will give you a discount between 5+10%. you dont sign the notary till you have paid 100% off your apartment.if you use it + still owe 20% fortnoks will charge you 1 years maintenance + will bill you for council tax 3.5 times more than what it is thats what we all got stung for last year in NFC. it is better to pay for your apartment outright inform fortnoks that you are coming over to sign the notary + pay your council tax yourself. for a one bed apartment fortnoks were charging people on NFC 350 euros council tax. if you use your apartment + you have only paid 80% you will get a big council tax bill wait till it is paid outright sign the notary and save yourself a lot of money

it might be better to get a cheap flight out to bourgas in winter ( i got one from luton for £44 return last oct ) change all your money into levs and make your final payment that way you would need to work it out.

Dear All,

Thank you for your replies.

I have actually now paid 100% for my apartment. (My contract was 30%, 20% and then 50% payment on completion).

How long would I be able to defer signing at the Notary? Would this ensure I don't pay any maintenance/council tax?

I have not signed with a Notary, not furnished the apartment, not used the apartment, not even asked for the key

I paid 5 years up front maintanance a year ago, & FortNoks still insist that I pay 257 Euros council Tax for 2008 :?

garyjs - what do you plan on doing. if u have not used the apartment i cannot see why you should pay anything. do they want insurance + service charge off you. this 12 month deffered scheme was a con + caught a lot of us out.

We stay in our apartments in St'Vlas, but as they are are not on a complex we thought NFC would be a good place for the Kids & Grand kids to stay

We went into the site office to get the keys last May after paying 5 Years Maintanance, a years Insurance, & service charge

They dangled the key in my face with one hand, then held out the other & demanded 250 Euros Council Tax, I told them they could keep the key

Now thay are asking 257 Euros for 2008

I hope to sign for the apartment with the Notary this June, but if they insist on the above, they may be keeping the keys for another year, at least the Water & Electric bills should be low, But I guess they will still want 30 Euros to read the Meter

Hi,

Given the strength of the Euro against Sterling, it may be an option to borrow the amount you need to pay in Euro. That way, if sterling does strengthen against the Euro, you could then pay the Euro loan off. This is called hedging and is often used to take the exchange risk out of foreign investments.

Hope this helps,

Mick
